2013 Premier’s Sustainability Award Finalists

We are delighted to announce that both the Yarra Ranges HabitAT School program and The Patch Primary School’s Learning Landscape have been announced as finalists in the Premier’s Sustainability Awards.  HabitAT Schools is a finalist in the Environment Protection category, while Learning Landscape is in the Education Category.

The HabitAT Schools program aims to ‘make helping local habitats a habit.’ Armed with worksheets and Council resources, teachers and students conduct an audit, or HabitAT Census, of their local area. They then develop a HabitAT Plan and take HabitAT Action that both seizes the local opportunities and addresses the bigger threats to local wildlife.  Check out the website HabitAT School Census page or contact the Learning for Sustainability team to find out how you can get involved in the HabitAT Schools program.

The Patch Primary Schools Learning Landscape is an outdoor environmental education program which incorporates experiential, participatory and multidisciplinary approaches to engage students and build understanding, knowledge, responsibility and sustainability leadership. Built over ten years, the program was designed and created by the students and community, and has been recognised for integrating academic learning with practical skills.

Winners will be selected from each group of finalists, per category, at the awards ceremony on 22 October.
